One of the blessings of my trip to Ukraine were the other people on the team, Melody and Tray Lovvorn being two of them. Melody and Tray’s marriage is an amazing story of God’s grace. They were married for eleven years before divorcing for six and have now been remarried for another eleven. You can read more about their story at Undone Redone, the ministry born out of their experience.
Part of their ministry includes a podcast that in the words “courageously steps into the brokenness and messiness of life and gazes through the lens of God’s wonderfully scandalous grace.” On it they interview guests on the topics of marriage and family, infidelity, addiction, grace, reconciliation, brokenness, authenticity and faith.
Recently I had the opportunity to chat with them about Walking With My Daughter Through Her Eating Disorder. When I listened back though I was reminded that our conversation hit on so much more.
Here are a few more things we hit on and why I think parents in any stage with find it useful:
- Bearing others’ burdens/how to be a good friend to someone going through a trial
- Identifying with our children so they see us as safe to confide in
- Idolatry of trying to control and fix our kids
- Looking to our kids for our identity
- Shepherding our kids’ hearts and not just the external behavior
- Growing in grace/dependence on the Lord in parenting — when I am weak, He is strong!
