A long-time fan of Sissy Goff and David Thomas’s work, I was beyond excited to chat with them about content from my book Parenting Ahead. In the book (and episode) I talk about “parenting like a farmer” and viewing parenting teens as an opportunity as I was influenced to do from Paul Tripp’s book Age of Opportunity. This mindset shift can bring purpose to our everyday, helping us remember that what we do matters AND that God is writing their stories–and ours!
Another key concept is something I say alot and that is: “Parenting starts with the heart of the Parent.” With this idea, I challenge us to probe our own hearts, examine our “idols,” and see how they influence our parenting styles–particularly toward overparenting or underparenting–and how these parenting styles impact our kids. The book includes an assessment to help with this.
You can listen to the episode HERE. I’ve also uploaded a discussion guide you can use on your own or with a small group of friends after listening. Find it HERE.
Last but not least–if you haven’t read Parenting Ahead yet–you can order it HERE. And then would you please go leave a review(!!!) so other parents might discover the book too!
Growing in grace together,
