I’ve never not been ready for summer. At this point in May isn’t everyone ready?
At the same time I vivdly remember years ago when my children were little laying on my bed in the middle of the afternoon (hiding!) wondering how in the world we were going to survive summer! It was only the first week and I was worn out.
It seems the first week, every summer is a little rough. Everyone has been counting down the days and filled with expectations, and then suddenly we’re all home together!
With littles ones I remember being frustrated by the constant interuptions. Whether stopping to drive them to activities, break up a fight, fix lunch or lather them up for the pool, there is no question sending them off to school for the day is easier!
Then they got older and my house very quickly went from quiet and orderly to lots of loud kids constantly coming in and out, stuff strewn everywhere, including an abundance of wet towels! Plus, a wet dog that too often got let in without being dried off first.
And, now that they are drivers every summer night is like a Saturday night, which becomes a challenge and source of conflict in and of itself. Still, I would take all the above over the alternative, “I’m bored” five gazillion times.
So, we are ready for summer, just not really ready for everything that comes with it– the adjustment of more togetherness, the conflicts that arise, the disruptions to our agendas, and the noise! But instead of gearing up simply for summer survival, what if…
- We actually approached summer with purpose?
- We used the slower pace and break from school-year schedules to be intentional with our time together?
- How might doing so even change our priorities come fall?
- Or, grow our relationships deeper with one another?
This is why I’ve put together an eBook called Redemptive Summering – Your Guide to Purposeful Parenting & Family Fun this Summer. It offers SIX TIPS + a slew of linked resources and just for fun, our family’s music playlist.
I’ve already had one mom tell me how they plan to implement some of the suggestions! And I hope many more of you will find it beneficial. If you don’t already have it (or want to tell a friend), I’m giving it away FREE for the month of May. All you have to do is subscribe to my monthly e-newsletter HERE. It will still be available after May in my website shop for a small price.
Hope this helps you really get summer ready!
